Personality: Upon first meeting Hope you could easily come to the conclusion that he is a weak and fearful person, but there are many layers to his personality that don't always come to the surface. Hope was a shy person at first, reluctant to speak, but as he warms up to people it becomes clear that he is extremely strong willed and willing to fight for who he trusts. Breaking through Hope's outer shell though is a complication it itself.
When upset, Hope has the ability to become a strong and vengeful person. Hope can be cruel and determined, fighting until he gets his revenge or changes his mind-state. This same passion and determination is brought into the better points of his life as well though. Hope has matured and become less shy, but he still struggles often with those old tendencies. Insecurities and sensitivities are still a very large part of the young man.
History: Hope was raised in what seemed to be a happy family with his loving mother Nora and his somewhat distant father Bartholomew. Part of the explanation to Hope and his father's distance could be blamed on his fathers job with the Sanctum. At the start of the game hope is spending time with his mother in Bodhum to watch the fireworks, taking a small vacation from their home which is located in Palumpolem. Hope's mother makes a wish on the fireworks and he teases her lightly about it. Later Hope gets caught up in the Purge with his mother and Snow Villiers tries to give Hope a gun to fight. Turning down the gun and retreating into the background, Hope watches as his mother stands and decides to fight with Snow. Not too long after Hope's mother Nora is caught in a firefight and tried to save Snow, dying before Hope's eyes.
It was after witnessing his mothers death that Hope becomes a vengeful individual, blaming Snow from the very start. Vanille takes in Hope through his shocked state and insists on taking him to a safer place in attempts to save him from the fighting. The two remove their Purge robes and Vanille leads him onward and the two run into the NORA group led by Snow. Watching as Snow heads towards the Pulse Vestige, Vanille urges Hope to follow after so he can express himself to Hope about his mother's death. Reluctant to continue all the while, Vanille is constantly urging the worrisome Hope by trying to pull him out of his shell.
After the two young kids make it into the Pulse Fal'cie they hear Snow somewhere else within. Hope is reluctant to speak with Snow, but as usual, Vanille urges him saying that they could either do that or just run away. Suddenly the two are surrounded by Cie'th and all seems hopeless until Snow arrives and saves the day. Hope is less than thrilled. Snow explains what he is doing there, how he intended to save Serah, and Hope says harshly that Snow shouldn't be saving a Pulse L'cie considering that they are the enemy.
After a time Hope and Vanille continue on with Snow and they run into Lightning, Sazh, and Serah and they all watch as Serah turns to crystal right before them. At first the party is discouraged, but in a short amount of time they decide to push onward and fight the Pulse Vestige, Snow and Lightning inspired by their love for Serah. The fight in intense but right after it appears that they've defeated their foe the Pulse Fal'cie wraps them in it's power and makes them all it's L'cie.
Caught in a whirlwind of desperate events Hope becomes more hostile and vows silently ever more to exact his revenge upon Snow. Hope constantly blames Snow for the situation he's in and lives in a perpetual sadness over being a L'cie. After the entire group awakens and realizes their plight they head off to try and avoid Sanctum soldiers who would hunt them for what they are. Not too long after the group become L'cie, Snow decides to split with the group, insisting that he has to protect Serah and the others shouldn't be caught up in it. Hope fights within himself over his desire to gain his vengeance, but eventually heads out with the rest of the group swearing to himself that someday he will fight Snow.
Lightning leads the group through Lake Bresha only for them to separate once more after reaching the Vile Peaks. At first Lightning had ever intention of leaving on her own, but Hope has an abrupt change of heart and rushes after her only to be cut off from Vanille and Sazh. Hope and Lightning get into a conversation and Lightning seems to open up a bit by explaining what she was doing in the Purge and how she was trying to save her sister. Hope makes a careless comment and Lightning scales a wall and disappears leaving Hope behind.
Meanwhile Vanille and Sazh continued their trek only to be reunited with a depressed Hope sitting alone. Vanille smiles and says kind words to Hope, trying to raise his spirits, and he remembers home, his father, and his deceased mother. Feeling even more hopeless than ever, Lightning ends up returning and explains how her new plan is to bring down Eden considering she has nothing better to do and the Sanctum is her enemy already. The others regard her with unhappy looks and Lightning decides to run off on her own again. Hope looks to the others and explains how he is going after Lightning so he can grow stronger, but after running off something explodes and cuts him and Lightning off from the others for good so Lightning is forced to keep Hope in her party though she tried to refuse him. After traveling together for a time Hope grows weary. He lags behind and finally trips over something which ignites Lightning's irritations. She says to the young boy that he is just too weak, too slow, and is getting in her way. Lightning insists that Hope should get stronger on his own, but she is cut off by a sudden pain which leads to the abrupt appearance of Odin, an Eidolin.
As Odin tries to attack Hope, Lightning defends him and the two work together to tame Odin for Lightning. After the fight is over Hope looks to Lightning and asks if he really is just a burden and he tells her that he promises he will get stronger. Lightning apologizes and makes her promise that she will help him get stronger. After resting the two move on into the Gapra Whitewood and Lightning lends Hope a knife that her sister gave her for her birthday. Near the end of the Whitewood Hope and Lightning come across a handful of injured Sanctum soldiers and Hope rushes in to help but Lightning hold him back and explains that the only thing the two can do is fight. Lightning continues and says that they should not feel any compassion, but they should move on and work towards their goal without caring who they have to face. It is at this point that Hope creates 'Operation Nora' in honor of his determination to murder Snow for his part in his mother's death.
Finally arriving in Palumpolem Hope and Lightning discover a large group of Sanctum soldiers occupying the city. Lightning tries to think of what to do and Hope insists that he knows a way to slip through the town unseen so they can make it to the train station that will take them to Eden. Following Hope's lead, Lightning aids in their travels and the two slip through the town, into the Fal'cie Carbuncle, and it is there that she experiences a mysterious revelation about the Sanctum Fal'cie. She mutters softly that humans are only the pets of the Sanctum Fal'cie before the two continue on and hurry back out into the city. Once outside again the two are suddenly surrounded and when all seems to be completely hopeless, Snow and Fang come to the rescue. Lightning and Hope are separated, Lightning insisting that Hope go with Snow and she with Fang. Reluctantly, Hope is dragged off by Snow and the two fight their way through the city. Fang contacts Snow via a safe line and they settle on meeting up again at Hope's house. Lightning realizes in a start that Hope still intends to kill Snow, but just before she can speak to the young man the line gets cut off.
Fighting through the city, Hope and Snow finally come to rest for a time in an opening. Snow offers Hope a drink that he coldly refuses and watches as Snow turns away to watch the sun on the horizon. Coming to the conclusion that it is now or never, Hope begins to throw questions at Snow about all the suffering he's caused. "And what if that gets people around you involved? What happens when your actions end up ruining someone's life? What if someone dies? What then, Snow? How do you pay for what you've done?" Snow looks alarmed and pained as he replies that once someone is dead nothing will help. Not apologies or words of any kind. Snow proclaims that he is not sure of the right answers. "There are no answers! You're running from what you deserve!" Snow asks Hope what he deserves and Hope replies that Snow deserves the same fate of death that his mother suffered. Holding the knife that Lightning lent him in his hand Hope comes minutes away from killing Snow when a Sanctum airship crashes nearby and sends Hope over the ledge. Without a second thought, Snow dives after Hope and shields him from most off the fall. Later when Hope wakes up he finds himself on Snow's back, even though Snow looks to be in worse shape than Hope himself.
Hope asks why Snow saved him and Snow replies that he promised Hope's mother and Lightning. While explaining that to Hope Snow also replies that he knows everything is his fault and he will find a way to atone for what he's done. Finally finding themselves on a more level ground, Hope and Snow are suddenly attacked and Snow is thrown into a wall and rendered unconscious. Hope tries to fight the enemy by himself, but luckily Lightning and Fang arrive just in time to assist in the fight. After battle Lightning embraces Hope after he returns her knife. When Lightning is holding him Hope says that Operation Nora is off and he'll do what he can to protect everyone.
Finally a group again, Hope leads the others to his house where they all meet his father. Enjoying a bit of relaxation finally the group takes time to recover while Hope has time with his father to explain how his mother died. His father is sad at first and while Hope grips himself for the usual dynamic of awkward conversation and little connection, Hope is surprised how kind and loving his father is to him. In explaining the party's situation Hope bonds with his father and learns that the man would be there for him no matter what happened. In little time the house is suddenly surrounded by Sanctum soldiers and the party is forced out to try and protect Hope's father.
After a large firefight the group is saved by Cid and the Lindblum. Upon the Lindblum Hope and the party learn that Vanille and Sazh have been captured and are being held on the Palamecia. Fang is determined to be reunited with Vanille and the group plans a rescue attack. After infiltration the group finds that Vanille and Sazh have escaped their prison and they are all reunited in a large fight on the ship. Happy to be a group again everyone heads out to finish their attack on the Palamecia to take care of Dysley. In a strange twist everyone learns that Dysley is actually a Sanctum Fal'cie and they are dragged into a confrontation.
After the fight Dysley emerges victorious and creates a ship for everyone to escape on. His ship leads the party to what Fang and Vanille identify as an Ark. Upon the ark everyone is trained as a L'cie and gain new strengths, but they also discover that the ark is hiding right beneath Eden. They all wonder why a Pulse weapon such as an ark is allowed to exist so close to the Sanctum HQ. At the end of the ark the party finds a pulse air ship and a portal to Gran Pulse. Sazh proclaims that he can fly anything and the party is off to Gran Pulse.
At first everyone was unsure of what to do, but after struggling for a while on Vanille and Fang's home world Hope begins to suffer extremely. Worried that he will become a burden on everyone Hope tells the party in his exhausted pain that they should go on without him and that he could take care of himself. In his moments of unsure doubt Hope is suddenly wrapped in the light of Alexander, his Eidolin. Joined by his comrades, Hope fights and tames Alexander and then realizes that he should be with them. The party gains the new goal of heading towards Fang and Vanille's home village for answers, Oerba.
After a tough fight the group arrives in Oerba only to find that it is a deserted wasteland covered in the crystal powder of L'cie from long ago. Desperately searching for answers the party walks through the village only to find Dysley waiting at the far edges. After yet another fight with the Sanctum Fal'cie Dysley leaves his ship and that leads the group back to Cocoon. Arriving in Eden everyone find that there is much confusion and fighting happening between Sanctum and Pulse monsters that were warped in, presumably from the ark. Realizing that Dysley's plan to sacrifice cocoon would be accomplished through all of the violence the group heads towards Orphan's Cradle to try and prevent anything bad from happening.
Upon finally arriving at Orphan's Cradle the group is caught in a world ending fight. Orphan falls and Hope reaches out for his friends as they all witness Vanille and Fang staying behind to become the ever feared Ragnarok. Later everyone except Vanille and Fang awake from their crystal stasis on the surface of Gran Pulse. Serah is reunited with Snow and Dajh with his father. Hope asks if they all completely their focus only to realize that their brands are gone. Feeling despair for his lost friends Hope is suddenly distracted by Snow announcing his wedding plans for him and Serah. With a smile and a laugh Hope insists that Snow doesn't waste any time.

RP Sample: Hope let himself sink comfortably into the chair. He didn't wish to think any further about everything that happened. No. It was finally time to rest his body and mind, which was a pleasant change after all the fighting that he'd had to do. Fighting was more than physically tiring, it wore heavily on his nerves as well. Running a hand through his hair, he tried to think of what he would do next. With friends all busy preparing for Snow's wedding, it was a bit sad to think that he was being left out. Dajh was too, but it didn't feel very good to be lobbed in with such a young child in the usefulness department.
Watching at everyone was hard at work, Hope finally decided to go on his own little adventure. Gran Pulse was a dangerous place, but he could protect himself finally, and getting away really sounded like the absolute ideal situation. Time to think, ponder, anything that would keep him busy. "Ready to go," Hope said to himself as he quickly rushed out of his new makeshift home in Oerba.
The day was bright and sunny, pleasant yet riddled with cool breezes. Feeling it rush through his hair exhilaratingly, Hope began to run out of the small village. Everyone was so caught up in their own tasks that he could probably stay out until after dark without anyone missing him at all, he thought with an expression somewhat like glee. Since the events that only recently passed, Hope was finally beginning to understand how to enjoy the more subtle joys in life, like the pleasant weather or a day to adventure.

Custom Title: Searching for Salvation
Anything else you want to shout out: pretty much this whole app was a copy and paste of what I did for MSA, so I'm hoping that's alright. I mean, in the end, I'm just going to be playing hope the same way anyhow~
